About us

We started in 1954 as a small body of believers that was enthusiastic and commited to starting a Presbyterian Church here in Manchester, TN. The first meeting place was in the American Legion room of the old Manchester City Hall. In less than a year we had ministries for men, women, and youth. Each member was dedicated to the foundation of the church and started a vision for a church building in 1955. By 1958 there had been enough funding and planning to start getting to work. Most of the work was done by members of the congregation, free of charge. Our first service in our own building was on November 21, 1958.

Like those of the early Church, our many years have not been without ups and downs. It has been a time of maintaining and growing our facilities and our outreach in our community and our members. Through it all, our church at 1101 Jackson Street -- known today as First Prebyterian Church of Manchester -- continues to be lead by the Holy Spirit to continue to serve as a place of worship, fellowship, and outreach.
