Our Pastor

Reverend Ben Schutz

"My first call is to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.  I am called to walk daily with my Lord through time together in Prayer, study of the Word as well as Corporate Worship and Sacramental living.  It is from God and my time with God that I draw my strength for life and ministry.  If I do not take care of myself, how can I care for others?
My second call is to my wife Dawn and to my daughter Jada.  I really enjoy being married, as well as being a father and I realize apart from God these are the most important relationships in my life. These relationships are also an important part of my ministry, as what I do is an example to the people of God I am in community with, and another source of strength in my life and ministry.
My third call is to be a Minister of Word and Sacrament (Teaching Elder) where ever I am. I believe this call is to lead and minister to the people of God in this church to transition to a new, but biblical, missional, and historical, way to be the church in the place and time God has called us to exist and serve God in.

My leadership style draws from a multitude of sources, the most prominent one being Jesus Christ.  Christ taught a group of disciples and gave them some chances for hand on experience, which he discussed with them afterward.  It so shaped those that he taught that they carried the message to the world after his ascension, and self replicated  by training other leaders to carry on in their stead.
I strive to create a team of leaders around the same principle, that are united in Christ, working with them, encouraging them, helping them to work on things on their own and to discuss it afterward.  However in that I believe it is important to tie them into their gifts and passions.  It is very important to me that the people I lead find Joy in what they do.  I believe it is also important to allow them to shine, to be the best that they can be at what they do.
I also draw from the works and examples of well known leaders both ancient and contemporary, and from a wide variety of cultures.  From them I have learned the importance of sharing why the cause is important and what’s at stake, and how to connect people with their gifts and strengths to the needs of the church and community."
